There are several types of DSL
available. They include Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line
(ADSL), Consumer DSL (CDSL), ISDN DSL (IDSL), High bit-rate
Digital Subscriber Line (HDSL), and G.Lite also known as DSL
lite, splitterless ADSL, or Universal ADSL .
ADSL is probably going to become the most used DSL in homes
and small businesses. It provides a large amount of bandwidth
for accessing the Internet, but limited bandwidth for uploading
to the Internet. With ADSL you are able to use your phone,
while on the Internet.
CDSL is an antiquated version of DSL, which is no longer
marketed. It is slower than other forms of DSL.
IDSL is slower than ADSL and has a speed close to a standard
telephone line or ISDN.
HDSL is used primarily by businesses because it offers the
same amount of bandwidth for both uploading and downloading.
It is one of the first types of DSL services available.
G.lite is expected to become the most installed DSL service,
because it doesn't requiring any splitting of the lines. It
is slightly slower than ADSL.
